Adi Stoenescu is a Romanian pianist and composer based in Berlin, whose music moves between contemporary jazz, improvisation and the contrasting worlds of acoustic and electric sound. His work combines a strong compositional approach with openness to interaction and spontaneity.
Born in Târgoviște, Romania, he studied classical piano for eight years before turning towards jazz and studying improvisation with pianist and composer Marius Popp. His early activity included blues and jazz projects centred around the Hammond organ, as well as more experimental work with Cătălin Milea’s Hammond Trip. As a member of Arcuș Trio, he received the Best Composition Award at Sibiu Jazz Festival in 2015.
In 2016, Stoenescu founded KRiSPER, an electric jazz project built around his original compositions. His recordings include Landing on the Comet with KRiSPER, Allotropy with Arcuș Trio, Titan Suite with Iordache, and the albums Waking Light and Surfacing released under his own name.
He has performed at major jazz festivals including Bucharest Jazz Festival, Gărâna Jazz Festival, JazzTM, Green Hours Jazz Fest, Smida Jazz Festival, Jazz in the Park and Ethno Jazz Festival in Chișinău.
Since moving to Berlin, he has become active in the local jazz scene, performing with KRiSPER at venues including A-Trane, B-flat, Kunstfabrik Schlot and Donau, while also developing more intimate duo projects with musicians such as Dima Bondarev and Ramiro Olaciregui.
Across these different settings, Stoenescu continues to explore the relationship between composition and improvisation, acoustic lyricism and electric energy.
